Jacqueline Woodson

Jacqueline Woodson is the award-winning author of more than twenty books for children and young adults. Critics praise her spare, lyrical style in novels that address serious themes of interest to young readers: racism, poverty, sexual identity, interracial relationships, sexual abuse, and violence. Readers are not left disheartened, however, as Woodson’s stories honor human agency and the strength of her characters. Woodson’s writing has garnered numerous awards from the American Library Association, including the 2006 Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement, the 2005 Caldecott Honor Award for Coming On Home Soon, the 2004 Coretta Scott King Honor Award for Locomotion, and two Newbery Honor Medals: the 2009 Honor for After Tupac & D Foster and the 2006 Honor for Show Way. Woodson recently joined the staff of Goddard College’s Visiting Writers Series.
